Western Straps

Snap-on 38mm straps · one strap, any western buckle

Wider, heavier straps made to carry a western buckle, each one a single piece of full-grain 100% cowhide. Plain, tooled or Celtic-embossed, in 38mm. Every strap is cut to your measurement and fitted to the buckle you choose.

The snaps open and close, so the buckle comes off in seconds and one strap can carry two or three western buckles — swap them to suit the day.

The easiest way to buy one is on the Build Your Belt page: pick the strap, pick a buckle that fits it, tell us your size.

How to measure for a western belt

Belt size is not the same as pant size. Take your pant waist size and add 2: a 34 waist takes a 36 belt. Better still, lay a belt that fits you flat and measure from the fold where the buckle sits to the hole you use most. That number in inches is your belt size. We cut the strap so the buckle lands on the middle hole, which leaves room either way. Each strap comes in sizes 24 to 42, and we can't cut one longer than that. Our belt size guide explains your size in more detail, including between sizes.

What width is a western belt strap?

All three straps are 38mm wide, which is 1 1/2 inches, the width most western buckles are made for. That's wider and heavier than a dress belt, and it suits jeans with wide belt loops. The buckle end closes with snaps instead of being stitched, so you can open them, slide a buckle off, put another on and snap it shut in seconds. One strap can carry two or three buckles. See every design on our Western Buckles page.

Plain, tooled or Celtic?

  • Western Strap ($45): smooth and left plain, with burnished edges. The everyday choice, in tan, black, dark brown, navy and white.
  • Tooled Western Strap ($55): a floral pattern pressed deep into the face, in burgundy, black and white.
  • Celtic Western Strap ($55): an interlaced Celtic knot embossed along the whole length, in brown and black.

Each one is a single piece of full-grain cowhide.

Looking after a full-grain strap

Full-grain leather keeps the natural surface of the hide, and it softens with wear. Wipe off dust and sweat with a dry cloth, give it a light coat of leather conditioner a few times a year, and let it dry on its own if it gets wet. Hang it or lay it flat rather than rolling it tight.

Questions we get asked

What size western belt should I get?

Your pant waist size plus 2, so a 34 waist takes a 36 belt. Or measure a belt you already own from the buckle fold to the hole you use most.

Will my own buckle fit these straps?

Yes, if it's made for a 38mm (1 1/2-inch) strap. Buy the strap on its own and we'll call you to confirm the size before we cut it.

Are your western straps real leather?

Yes. Each one is a single piece of full-grain cowhide, 100% leather.

Can I return a western strap?

No. Every strap is cut to one person's measurement, so it's final sale. If you're unsure of the size, call us at (561) 517-8958 before you order.

How much is a western belt?

The straps are $45 for the plain Western Strap and $55 for the Tooled and Celtic straps. Our western buckles are $25 to $45, and you can put the two together on the Build Your Belt page.

How long does shipping take?

Standard shipping is $8 and takes 3 to 7 business days, free on orders of $100 or more. Priority shipping is $15 and takes 2 to 4 business days. Local pickup at our Wellington store is always free.
