Exotic belts you can see and feel in person
Most exotic belts are bought online, sight unseen. At Executive Leather you hold the actual belt first. Our store at The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington, Florida carries alligator, crocodile, hornback, ostrich, stingray, python and lizard, and we usually have more skins and cuts in the store than we show online. Customers drive in from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Jupiter because few stores in South Florida carry real exotic belts. Our family has sold fine leather since 1991.
Cut to your size while you wait
Every exotic belt here comes with its buckle already on. Tell us your size and we cut the belt to fit. In the store, we cut and fit it while you wait. Online, we cut it before it ships. Want a different buckle, or to pair a skin with a buckle you pick yourself? Use our Build Your Belt page.
Alligator vs crocodile: what's the difference?
The difference is in the scales. Crocodile scales each carry a tiny dot, a natural sensory pore. Alligator belly scales have none, and only alligator shows the "umbilical scar", a star-shaped pattern that makers often feature as proof the skin is real. Crocodile rows look more even; alligator scales are a little more irregular and get smaller toward the sides. Caiman, a cheaper cousin, is often sold as "crocodile". We label every skin for exactly what it is.
Belly cut vs hornback
The belly is the smooth, flat underside of the skin, with even rectangular scales: the dressier, most prized cut. Hornback comes from the ridge along the animal's back, with raised, bony scales you can feel: bolder, tougher, and the classic western look.
Ostrich, stingray, python and lizard
- Ostrich: soft and flexible, recognised by its quill bumps where the feathers grew. Comfortable from the first day.
- Stingray: covered in tiny hard beads, one of the toughest leathers there is, and naturally water-resistant.
- Python: a bold natural pattern, and no two are marked alike. Brush it with the direction of the scales so they lie flat.
- Lizard: a tight, fine scale pattern with a quiet, refined look. The most understated exotic to wear with a suit.
How much does an exotic belt cost?
Our ready-made exotic belts run from $275 to $400 with the buckle included: stingray and python $275, lizard $325, crocodile belly and ostrich $375, hornback $400. Alligator belts are in our Wellington store; call us for prices. Exotics cost more than cowhide for real reasons: far fewer skins are produced each year, each one is graded and cut by hand, and a single scar can ruin a hide. The same belts at designer stores often cost several times more.
How to care for an exotic leather belt
Wipe it with a soft dry cloth, and every few months use a little conditioner made for exotic skins, rubbed in the direction of the scales. If it gets wet, blot it and let it air-dry away from heat or sun. Never use mink oil or household oils. Store it flat or hanging, not tightly rolled.
